Vincent House, Martha’s Vineyard

This wonderful old house on Martha’s Vineyard was moved onto the Historical Society property on the island and became a museum. I painted this transparent watercolor en plein air and must admit, I took some artistic license and hid behind the bush what was an old smoke house or kitchen extension coming off the back right. It was so old it may be gone by now. Lotus Pond Egrets – Virginia Beach

This delightful lily pond lies next to Jane’s terrace where three of us set up easels and created three very different paintings:  a pastel, an oil, and this, my transparent watercolor. What fun to be painting plein air in the quiet (except for the croaking of many frogs in the lily pond) Chester County countryside with art friends of French Creek Art Colony. Crazy Over Venice

This painting is my first experiment with watercolor on Yupo.  Yupo is not paper – it’s plastic and nothing stays still and can easily be swished around or wiped away with water. Some artists do exciting wonderful things on Yupo. I’d like to try a second one – maybe fish or flowers. Anne’s Sheep

This is Arasapha Farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania where Anne’s sheep live.  In the summertime, we would watch as the men skillfully sheared these sheep.  The wool then went to Maine where they were made in a special way into warm blankets and beautiful yarns that were non-allergic due to the process.  When I painted this en plein air,  it was summer,  the sheep were beyond the barn,  and a tree was where the sheep are – – but that is what makes painting such fun – moving things around!
