Lotus Pond – Egrets

Although the lotus blossoms were not in bloom, the egrets were there at this lovely pond outside of Virginia Beach.  Two copperheads were sunning below us in the branches of a bush I did not paint.  I didn’t paint the snakes either, but I did take their pictures! Ardrossan in Winter-Hope’s Barn

My original sketch of this wonderful barn was made in the summertime.  The first painting, titled simply “Hope’s Barn” was small and sold immediately from the Gallery our Art League had in what is now Eagle Village in Strafford.   But, wanting more drama, I decided to create a winter scene instead and after years of thinking about it, I painted this Ardrossan in Winter-Hope’s Barn. It is a half sheet (15” high x 22” wide) with an off-white mat in a 20” high x 27” wide frame.  Ardrossan and Hope were the inspiration for The Philadephia Story with Katharine Hepburn and its remake High Society with Grace Kelly. Chanticleer-Cutting Garden

Chanticleer Garden in Wayne is open to the public.  We artists who live in the area have been so fortunate over the years to be invited to come and paint in the extensive and varied gardens of this large property. At the time this transparent watercolor was painted, the strips of annuals was called “the cutting garden.”  The path between these blooming strips had fabulous arches with sweet-smelling honeysuckle climbing all over them.  I left the arches out of this painting – that will be an oil painting some day.  This day, four of us were there painting – two of us at the “cutting garden,” the others on the terrace to capture that view. We spent the day there, meeting midday to lunch together, then back to our easels to finish for the day. This painting is currently in the Collection of the Artist but is available. Boat Repair

How I love being an artist !  I sketched this sailboat where she was in for repairs at a yard down in Cape May, New Jersey, yet loved the look of these houses on the water.   So I re-sketched the boat to be across from the houses and closer to the water  (where it would never be in real life), and made everything into one painting.  “Boat Repair” is with a Private Collector on Long Beach Island. Early Morning Walk in France

I just loved how the light bounced around these buildings and wanted to capture the hustle and bustle of this early morning scene.  Early Morning Walk in France is transparent watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper.  The original sold immediately the first time it was exhibited. Caribbean Reverie

“Caribbean Reverie” sold immediately from a Gallery on LBI to a lovely New Yorker.  I painted this transparent watercolor in my studio right after I returned from the Caribbean and could still remember the soft breezes and sense of stillness and peace I felt when I glimpsed this beautiful girl sitting on her veranda.   Share this page on:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Tumblr (Opens in new...
